CONTRACTS

There are a variety of units responsible for reviewing, negotiating, and maintaining contracts.  The heft of contracts belongs to the Business Contracts Unit, Industry Contracts, and Contracts & Grants.   The Office of Legal Affairs assists these units in the event they have legal issues, questions, or concerns.

BUSINESS CONTRACTS UNIT (NON-RESEARCH AGREEMENTS) :

The Business Contracts Unit advises and assists campus faculty, students, and staff regarding specialized non-research business agreements and relationships which will meet their business objectives and maximize their resources without incurring undue risk, consistent with the University's mission of teaching, research, and public service.  Examples of the types of documents it reviews and negotiates are as follows:

INDUSTRY CONTRACTS DIVISION (INDUSTRY SPONSORS ONLY) :

The Industry Contracts Division is responsible for negotiating and signing all industry research contracts between UCSF and Industry Sponsors.  This includes:

  • clinical trial agreements
  • material transfer agreements (incoming materials of all types and outgoing clinical specimen or data)
  • sponsored research agreements
  • grants (including UC Discovery and SBIR/STTR)
  • confidentiality agreements.

CONTRACTS AND GRANTS (GOVERNMENTS AND NON-PROFITS ONLY) :

Contracts and Grants provides a variety of services to the campus community related to obtaining and managing federal, state, local governments, and non-profit sponsors in the areas of :

  • clinical trials
  • public service projects
